What is ULTRAFOAM +?

ULTRAFOAM + is a heavy-duty caustic foam detergent designed for food-processing environments where conventional general-purpose detergents may not provide the level of cleaning performance required for heavily soiled areas.

The formulation combines high causticity with Long Cling Technology, helping the foam remain in contact with surfaces during the cleaning process.

This makes ULTRAFOAM + particularly suitable for production environments where cleaning teams regularly encounter:

  • Heavy fats
  • Animal fats
  • Grease
  • Protein residues
  • Food residues
  • Organic soils
  • Heavy production contamination
  • Difficult-to-remove deposits

Heavy-Duty Foam Cleaning for Food Manufacturing

Food factories can present some of the most demanding cleaning conditions.

Depending on the production process, equipment and raw materials, surfaces can become heavily contaminated with fat, grease, protein and food residues.

ULTRAFOAM + is designed for these more demanding cleaning applications.

The combination of high causticity and Long Cling Technology provides a heavy-duty foam-cleaning solution designed to give the cleaning chemical time to work against difficult organic soils.

For hygiene managers, this makes ULTRAFOAM + particularly relevant when evaluating:

Soil removal + foam coverage + contact time + cleaning performance

Long Cling Technology

A major feature of ULTRAFOAM + is its Long Cling Technology.

The foam is designed to cling to surfaces rather than immediately running away, helping maintain contact between the detergent and the soiled surface.

This can be particularly useful when cleaning:

  • Vertical walls
  • Processing equipment
  • Machinery
  • Tanks and vessels
  • Conveyors
  • Floors
  • Guards and framework
  • Production-room surfaces
  • Areas with difficult access

Longer-lasting foam coverage can help cleaning teams achieve more consistent application across large production areas.

Actual cleaning performance will depend on concentration, contact time, temperature, application equipment, soil type, soil loading, surface and operator technique.

Heavy-Duty Cleaning for Hygiene Managers

For a Hygiene Manager, the choice of detergent can have a significant effect on the overall cleaning process.

When evaluating a heavy-duty food factory detergent, important considerations can include:

  • Type of soil
  • Soil loading
  • Fat and grease levels
  • Protein loading
  • Foam quality
  • Surface coverage
  • Contact time
  • Working concentration
  • Water temperature
  • Water quality
  • Foam equipment
  • Rinse requirements
  • Operator technique
  • Chemical handling
  • COSHH requirements
  • Cleaning verification
  • Overall cleaning cost

ULTRAFOAM + is designed specifically for sites where heavy soil removal is a key requirement.

ULTRAFOAM + for Technical Managers

Technical Managers and Food Safety Managers need cleaning chemicals that fit into a controlled and documented hygiene system.

ULTRAFOAM + can be considered where a site needs a heavy-duty alkaline detergent for the cleaning stage of its food hygiene programme.

A cleaning procedure should establish the appropriate:

Chemical concentration → application method → contact time → temperature → mechanical action → rinse procedure → verification

The current product information specifies:

3–5% v/v through suitable foam-generating equipment at ambient temperatures.

Always use the current Product Data Sheet and site-specific cleaning procedure when establishing the correct working conditions.

Recommended Application

Use ULTRAFOAM + at 3–5% v/v through suitable foam-generating equipment at ambient temperatures.

The correct concentration and cleaning procedure should always be established using the current product documentation and the requirements of the particular application.

Important variables include:

  • Soil type
  • Soil loading
  • Surface
  • Contact time
  • Temperature
  • Application equipment
  • Chemical concentration
  • Rinse procedure

Alkalinity Testing & Cleaning Control

Maintaining the correct chemical concentration can help support consistent cleaning performance.

SOS Hygiene offers Hi/Low Alkalinity Test Kit products for checking cleaning-solution alkalinity.

Available reagents include:

  • KS135-PA1 Phenolphthalein Indicator
  • KS133 ALK4 Alkalinity LR Titrant

Ask SOS Hygiene about alkalinity testing and chemical concentration monitoring for your hygiene programme.

Suitable for All Water Types

ULTRAFOAM + is stated to be suitable for all water types.

This makes it suitable for consideration across food and beverage manufacturing sites with different water characteristics.

However, individual sites should still evaluate cleaning performance under their actual operating conditions, including water quality, temperature, concentration and soil loading.

COSHH & Safe Chemical Handling

ULTRAFOAM + is a professional caustic cleaning chemical and should be handled according to the current Safety Data Sheet, product instructions and site COSHH assessment.

HSE guidance states that COSHH controls should address chemical hazards, safe storage, working concentrations, dilution procedures, application equipment, operator exposure and appropriate training and emergency procedures.

HSE also highlights that some cleaning products can be corrosive and cause skin burns or eye damage, making appropriate controls, work practices and PPE important.

Always obtain and review the current SDS before use.

SOS Hygiene can provide the relevant Product Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet on request.

Designed for Heavy Fats, Proteins & Grease

ULTRAFOAM + is particularly suited to environments where heavy organic soils are a recurring cleaning challenge.

Fat Removal

Heavy fats can accumulate around food-processing equipment, floors, walls, drains and production machinery.

ULTRAFOAM + is designed to provide high-performance caustic cleaning for suitable fat-contaminated surfaces.

Protein Removal

Protein residues can be particularly challenging in meat, poultry, fish, dairy and prepared-food production.

ULTRAFOAM + is highly effective at removing protein-based food soils.

Grease Removal

Heavy grease and oily production residues can require a powerful alkaline cleaning chemical and appropriate foam application.

ULTRAFOAM + is designed for these demanding cleaning conditions.

Cleaning Before Disinfection

ULTRAFOAM + is a detergent, not a disinfectant.

This distinction is important in food manufacturing.

UK food hygiene guidance describes cleaning with a suitable detergent as the first stage, removing visible dirt, food particles, grease and debris, followed by rinsing. Where disinfection is required, this is a separate stage.

Therefore, ULTRAFOAM + can form part of the cleaning stage of a wider cleaning and disinfection programme.

If your site requires a disinfectant after cleaning, the appropriate disinfectant should be selected separately according to its product instructions and applicable requirements.

Why Use Foam Cleaning in a Food Factory?

Foam application can provide several practical advantages in large food-production environments.

A suitable foam detergent can help:

  • Cover large surface areas
  • Make chemical application more visible
  • Maintain contact with vertical surfaces
  • Provide controlled application
  • Reduce rapid run-off
  • Allow the detergent time to act on food soils
  • Support consistent cleaning procedures

For heavily soiled production areas, selecting the appropriate foam characteristics can be an important part of achieving repeatable cleaning performance.
